Cream-spot Tiger

I took these photos of a Cream-Spot Tiger that I disturbed in an area of chalk grassland and scrub adjoining Bluewater Shopping Centre. It looks like the Centre-in an old chalk quarry-is surrounded by semi-maintained wetlands and chalk grassland. These proved very productive for all forms of wildlife, including moths. It seems that Bluewater Shopping Centre makes a great day-out, especially if you avoid the shops!!

Both caught at the Obs. White Spot is RDB along the South coast and Fox Moth is Common throughout.

This female Incurvaria masculella was caught last night at St Margaret's at Cliffe. Food plant is Hawthorn. Male masculella have comb-like or 'pectinate' antennae, a feature unusual amongst the 'micros'.

Oak Nycteoline

I trapped this Oak Nycteoline at Hawkwell Farm, Pembury on the night of 23rd March. One of well over 200 moths trapped that night and this species represented my 350th species of macro in Kent.
